Peyton Manning jabs Patriots on Monday Night Football, says he fears locker was ‘bugged’

When Peyton Manning played against the New England Patriots, the legendary quarterback said Monday, he refrained from discussing plays at his locker because he knew it was “bugged.’’

Manning made the comments on the alternate telecast of the Monday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.

“Every time I played against New England, I used to talk to my receivers like in the shower in the far corner. I’m like, ‘Don’t talk about a play next to my locker,’ because I know it’s bugged. I know it’s got a hot mic in it in there,’” Manning said.

Eli Manning prompted the comments when he asked Peyton Manning if he was worried after the New England Patriots had practiced in Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts, the week before Super Bowl 46 against the New York Giants in 2012.

Peyton Manning, who at the time played for the Colts, said he took precautions after the Super Bowl and suggested he would huddle with his receivers in the shower rather than around his locker.

“We were in the shower,’’ he said. “It’s very strange. Very strange to see seven guys hanging out there in the back of the shower. But take all precautions…”
